Software engineer
We're currently looking for one or more software engineers to join our team. You'll be working on Shotwell (our photo organizer), Fillmore (our multitrack audio recorder) and/or Lombard (our video editor).
We're a non-profit group funded by donations and we can't pay you as much as that boring bank job, but we can offer the following:
- The opportunity to work on cutting-edge multimedia software using cool open source technologies such as GNOME, GTK+ and Vala.
- A work location in San Francisco's Mission District, easily accessible by public transportation and surrounded by zillions of restaurants and cool nightlife.
- A great team to work with: we are friendly and enthusiastic and have years of open source experience.
- Flexible vacation (six weeks per year including holidays) and health insurance benefits.
Here's what we're looking for from you:
- You have a computer science degree or equivalent expertise gained through work experience.
- You can write C code in your sleep. You are also very proficient in at least one object-oriented language such as Java or C#.
- You can jump into a project with many thousands of lines of code and be productive within days.
- You like usable graphical interfaces. You probably prefer gedit to editors such as emacs or vi.
- You like to think about design decisions - both about user interface decisions and coding/architectural decisions - and have opinions about them.
- You are a team player and have a strong work ethic. You get along with others easily.
- You have permission to work in the U.S. and can work with us at least four days per week in our office in San Francisco.
- You are excited about open source software and about changing the world.
If this sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you - send your resume to jobs@yorba.org. No recruiters or phone calls, please!
Engineering intern
We're currently hiring computer science students for paid internships at Yorba. As an intern, you'll have the same focus as our full-time staff engineers: contributing code to our open source projects under development. You'll work side by side with our team and will have the opportunity to learn a lot about software engineering and about open source languages, libraries and tools.
Here's who we're looking for:
- You are currently an undergraduate or graduate student in good standing in a computer science degree program.
- You are proficient at programming in C and in at least one object-oriented language.
- You are enthusiastic about using and improving open-source software.
- You can commit to an internship of at least 10 weeks of full-time work.
- You have permission to live and work in the U.S., and can work with us in our office in San Francisco.
- You can come to San Francisco for an interview with us.
Interest and/or experience in digital media (photos, audio, video) is also a plus.
Internships usually happen in summer, but could potentially occur in spring or fall if allowed by your school.
